Dustin is an incredible veteran babyface this much is known. But holy shit Kyle is winning me over, I hated his head drop laden bombfests for the longest time but he's putting it together quickly now. A touch fanwanky to say this was his Orton vs Foley moment, but its in that neighbourhood. #AEW

Okada/Omega is beautiful in a way that none of the first 4 are. They do less moves, but wrestling is best when it's as real as possible. And the story of shattered Kenny desperately throwing bombs to try and recapture past glory and hang with Okada is wonderfully real, and deeply engaging. #AEW

The more I think about this the more insane I think it is from a wrestling historian. The divide between the "superstar" heel and the everyman babyface is incredibly commonplace right up until like...right now, in one particular company. It's just an insanely myopic view of wrestling. 🤼

This is a catastrophic misreading of what makes a babyface likeable. Will being a neurodivergent boy from Essex who dresses like a lad out on the lash on a Friday night is exactly what makes him relatable.

Hangman Page vs Kyle Fletcher - AEW Dynamite 30/04/25 🤼 If not the best match Kyle Fletcher has ever been involved in, certainly the best Kyle Fletcher performance in a match. One singular head drop placed in desperation, and given space to breathe with excellent heel wrestling throughout. - ****

I would very much enjoy if Hangman Page - one of wrestling's most logical and thoughtful characters - would realise that The Buckshot Lariat is too telegraphed and counterable and change his finish. There was a perfect opportunity to switch to The Angel's Wings full time and I fear they missed it 🤼

Hello. I am not dead. Sadly got a little busy and watching a 4 hour show every day become unsustainable and then when I couldn't keep up the pace, the whole endeavour felt overwhelming and pointless. But, i'm going to put out a more sensible schedule starting soon(TM). It's Summer of Punk time. 🤼

It might just be a product of them being in better shape, and it's only a 2 match sample size, but I *really* appreciate this new Bucks initiative of just going out and having the most 2010s PWG matches imaginable 🤼 It's an injection of stupid sprinty fireworks wrestling that the product needs.

The Final Showdown - 13.05.2005 🤼 #ROH We are well and truly on the road to The Summer of Punk now, and these next few shows feel like they are slotting final pieces into place for what is truly one of Gabe's crowning moments of storytelling. Small matter of the Bo5 series to wrap up too.

I think it's a pretty positive sign for overall engagement and sentiment towards AEW that they managed to put on a widely heralded fantastic show last night with pretty minimal great wrestling on it. Of course ideally they do both. 🤼 #AEW

Manhattan Mayhem - 07.05.2005 🤼 #ROH Fun fact, according to Cagematch ratings, this is the best show i've reviewed to date. I'm a special flower though whose opinions have not always lined up with the Cagematch ratings, so we'll see about that. The card at least, looks fantastically promising.

Stalemate - 16.04.2005 🤼 #ROH It's a special effort to spoil the result of not one, but two of your top of the card matches with one show title. Great job Gabe. Rocket strapped to Gibson? Is the question running through everyone's mind as he gets his shot at insecure champion Aries.

Daniels/Hangman was good, but held back from being great by the fact that everyone still just fucking loves Hanger. Makes the vibes miss, because for full emotional investment we need to despise the guy leaving the grizzled vet a bloody mess on his own shield. But we don't. 🤼 #AEW

Without hyperbole, one of the most important matches of the 21st Century. Without this main event, there's no ROH buzz, without ROH buzz, there's no ROH, without ROH, modern wrestling is unrecognisable from what it is today.

Best of American Super Juniors Tournament - 02.04.2005 🤼 Probably the most cursed show in ROH history. Anticipated as a show of the year candidate with the incredible roster of eligible juniors ROH had available, it would take spectacular circumstances for this to be anything less than excellent.

I guess we can add actual murder to the list of things we have to rationalise away as totally fine and justified when Hangman does it. 🤼

Trios Tournament - 05.03.2005 🤼 #ROH One of a few diversions this year into themed events. Trios wrestling is vastly underappreciated in the US even today, so it's a bold call to theme a whole event around it. The winning team gets to "book their own matches" which is a bit Russo, but we move. ⬇️

Third Anniversary Celebration Night 1 - 19.02.2005 🤼 #ROH Two night shows never seem to work out, so lets do a triple header instead! ROH hit three of their "home" venues over the course of a week with a stacked lineup and a celebratory vibe. This tape from the RexPlex is 5 freaking hours long.

Another Do or Die afternoon tryout show being skipped, but a lot of noteworthy names show up this time. Kevin Steen and El Generico both make an appearance, the former losing to a debuting B-Boy. Antonio Banks (MVP) also gets a runout against Homicide before being snapped up the Fed machine. 🤼 #ROH

4th December 2004, the new best match in ROH history to date, and one that will take some beating. My first 5* I implore everyone to watch this match, better with the two hours that proceed it, but essential wrestling viewing even on its own. I kinda like a lot of my writing here as well. 🤼

All Star Extravaganza II - 04.12.2004 🤼 It ends tonight. One of the most legendary series of matches in US Independent history will come to an end tonight in front of ~800 people in Elizabeth New Jersey. A stacked supporting card makes this one of the most well regarded shows in ROH history. ⬇️

Weekend of Thunder Night 2 - 06.11.2004 🤼 Night 2 is headlines by a "Dream Partner" Tag Team match with Danielson & Ki teaming up to take on the team of Samoa Joe and Jushin Liger. Elsewhere Gen Next vs SCS picks up pace and Homicide steps out of his comfort zone for a Pure Title shot. ⬇️

I'm higher on the Death Riders angle than most. Maybe it's residual goodwill from how amazing the Danielson stuff was. BUT, it's clearly started to land cold with people and Kenny has intangible lightning in a bottle buzz right now. I'd do it. You can still get to Hanger or Darbs from Kenny. 🤼

Joe vs Punk II - 16.10.2004 🤼 One of the most infamous matches in ROH history. It's hard to express the impact this had in 2004. WON 5 Star on US soil when that meant something. People who only knew WWE were asking who this CM Punk guy was. A touchstone moment in the wrestling zeitgeist. ⬇️

Gold - 15.10.2004🤼 ROH reaches the big 5-0 for shows, kicking off another double header weekend. A lot of the focus is on the impending Joe/Punk rematch on the 2nd night, but Gold has some interesting stuff as well including Punk wrestling twice, before potentially going long again on the Sunday.

I think Meltzer gets a bad rap, he's one of the best historians we have and a phenomenal asset as a journalist. But my god I have never seen a greater indicator of his ratings being broken by his MOVEZ brainrot than these 2 fairly inconsequential multis being tied for 8th best ROH match in history.

The new greatest match in ROH history to date (October 2005), and for my money probably my best review as well. Have a read and then go seek this out. I implore thee. 🤼

Midnight Express Reunion - 02.10.2004 🤼 Realistically, you're here for one of two things. Some Class-A nostalgia bait, or the promise of one of the greatest matches you'll ever see between two wrestlers who have already garnered BITW level status at such a young age. Does it deliver on either? ⬇️

Glory By Honor III - 11.09.2004 🤼 Mick Foley debuts, and we hark back to the pick each other's opponents stipulation from last year, applying it to the World and Pure champions. Significance added of course by the location and date of the show in New Jersey on 9/11.

The match that was booked to draw fans away from Teddy Hart and Court Bauer's H2 Wrestling promotion that never happened.
