5/20 This is the dream of Arcadia painting by Thomas Cole, he depicts a mountain region in Greece. It looks like the Parthenon is sitting on the top of the hill but in real life it’s sitting on a much bigger and steeper hill.

We made it on the bus, there was no fuss, be safe don’t worry, I’m gonna go home later and eat curry.

Week 7 - 1/20 Capen and I tried taking the light rail to the theatre district but apparently there’s a fire down there so now we’re at the contemporary art museum

15/20 Don Coen huge “Family Harvest” looks like it was made by a computer in some parts. The lights on the tractor look way too real and smooth but also I’m thinking it might be easier to get precise details on a bigger canvas. This must’ve taken a long time to paint.

13/20 Joseph H.Sharp captured a “Toas Indian Hunter” very well in this painting. I bet the hunter was pretty uncomfortable holding that position for so long

Week 6 - 1/20 Heading to the DAM with @mcskeeterson.bsky.social, I think I want to check out the upper floors today that I missed last week.

Week 5 - 21/20 How rapidly or slowly do the meanings in a work reveal themselves to you? I think this depends on how much reasearch i am doing if I just look at it for 15 minutes though I can usually get the jist of a piece of art but I don't really understand it fully till I look at the internet

20/20 I took a pottery class senior year of high school and these pots are very impressive. I really like the art in them that is so detailed because it’s a lot harder painting on curved surfaces.

19/20 This is shout against the darkness made out of Pastel and graphite pencil on paper. It reminds me of the demons lurking under my bed at night. EEEEEEEEEEK!! #conartinsitu

18/20 This landscap art piece has many cool features lakes and a cave with a canyon in the middle. Ive been noticing a theme with all the pieces in here that they all use many colors

Week 4 - 1/20 How do we start? Do we necessarily have naive responses to art as a starting point? I know for me tend to have a naive view on art at the beginning because I don't understand the meaning or how much effort was initially put into the project #conartinsitu

On page 101, Williams talks about how similes are clear and safe because they directly explain the comparison. Metaphors are risky but stronger because they combine two unrelated things to create meaning. Between the 2, I am better at making similes like the pope is at being Catholic. #ConArtinSitu

1/20 - Week 3 Sammy's aluminum plastic bags How does the artist's choice of material(s) influence your reading of the work? I interpreted it as she needed a material that was heavy to reach her 70lb goal, which international flights allow without adding a ton of different items.

On page 11 of "How to write about contemporary art," Williams explains how a good art writers need to: 1. Describe what the art is 2. Explain what it may mean 3. Suggest how it might connect to the world at large I like how she broke a complex idea into steps that are easy to follow
