I get this take (and no shade because it's the right political take) but it's really not reasonable to only look at the November 2024 inflation rate. Inflation really was at levels few living Americans had ever experienced...and had only recently cooled by Election Day. It was a legit crisis!

There's really interesting social science on how white people significantly overestimate the number of people of color in a room or in a picture. A room with, like, 20% POC will be perceived as majority POC.
