In the under 3’s room we’ve had lots of Christmas fun this week! There has been lots of different experiences to explore. We decorated our tree made of oats, made our own Christmas trees from play dough and created snowmen from rice. It’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas!

It’s getting very wintery and cold outside and we’ve even seen some snow. So today we made a giant snowflake and used our fine motor skills to draw up different coloured water into droppers then squeezed the water onto our snowflake to colour it in. We thought it looked beautiful ❄️

We have been developing our imagination in the garden. We have practiced problem solving, teamwork and numeracy skills as we created car garages, petrol stations, ice cream shops, cafes, trains and homes. Lots of early money skills as people visited our creations too💰🚂🏠🚗🍦☕️

Bookbug this week was a lovely and relaxing session. The children enjoyed lying on their tummies to listen to the story and taking their shoes off to get comfortable. Thank you to one of our parents for coming along. A little reminder it will be on Thursday at 2.15pm 📖🎶

We made shortbread for St Andrews Day at Big Cook Little Cook. Thank you to the parents who came along and joined us. Lots of lovely interactions and skills being developed 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 👩🏼‍🍳

We made pizza today. We had fun using our ingredients to create different faces. We developed our fine motor skills as we chopped up the peppers and loved sharing what we helped to make with our friends asking them ‘do you like it?’ We even wanted to give some to our mums when they collected us 🍕

We’ve been reading The Three Billy Goats Gruff. We didn’t want the Troll to be hungry so we fed him some porridge instead of goat! We’ve been using our imagination loads this week pretending to be the troll and the goats and building bridges.

We enjoyed tasting our yummy soup we helped to make this afternoon. We talked about the ingredients that were in it and if we liked it or not. Some children had more than one bowl! Nadine was so happy to see lots of lovely interactions at the table as she had some soup with us 🥣❄️🤍

We explored our snack, making faces. H ‘I made a sad face’ M ‘I did a happy one’ R ‘I made a O face’. We spoke about what else we could make into faces and chose pizza. We created a shopping list with ingredients we could use for facial features. H ‘sweetcorn for eyes’ M ‘we need cheese’

We discussed the weather and what we could do to keep warm. M ‘go under a blanket’ A ‘hat scarf and gloves’ we guessed what we were making to keep us warm B ‘hot chocolate?’ MK ‘soup?’ We made some yummy vegetable soup and lots of our parents said it smelled yummy. We can’t wait to eat it tomorrow🥣

Thank you to all our families who joined us for Family Breakfast. It was lovely to see our children happy and showing their families how well they know our snack routines. Nadine had some lovely conversations with our families and a huge topic was Christmas since it snowed last night ❄️ 🎅🏻 #peep

Today in the under 3s room we connected and disconnected different sized blocks by sticking them together with shaving foam and then taking them apart to Create something else. Some children made animals and others made trains ☺️

What an amazing turn out for Bookbug yesterday📖 🎶 thank you to all our parents who came along. The children had a lovely time and I think their favourite part was singing Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes really fast 💨👀👂🏻👄👃🏻

We had so much fun today playing with shaving foam in the tuff tray. We decided to add different colours and we made lots of circles, shapes and marks with our fingers in the foam. We used lots of different descriptive words like ‘soft’ and ‘squashy’ and ‘yuck’ to describe what the foam felt like.

This week we used our hands and cardboard tubes to make firework paintings. We talked about the noises and the colours that fireworks make in the night sky and we used our fine motor skills and creativity to make our own fireworks paintings.

We had so much fun yesterday doing large firework painting in the art area. We discussed the sound fireworks make and the different colours and shapes we had seen as we watched videos of them on the iPad. We can’t wait to display it on our wall 🎆 ❤️

We had great fun with Nicole yesterday at Bookbug! Our favourite part was the shiny lycra! Thank you to one of our parents for joining us. Hopefully more families are able to join us next week 😊 please speak with Nadine or Nicole if you have any questions 🎶📖

Some of our children participated in Big Cook Little Cook. They listened as Ann explained the recipe and worked together with their mums to make delicious pastry mummy pizzas🍕

We participated in still life painting in the art area. We explored different colours, patterns and shapes of pumpkins and then painted our own interpretation of them. We can’t wait to display them on the wall 🎃 🎨

We used our senses to explore our Autumn water tray. There were lots of different smells and textures from the oranges and cinnamon sticks to explore. We used our fine motor skills to pour and mix things together. The spiders were a little bit scary but we were very brave and held them in our hand.

We made banana and oat cookies. We used our fine motor skills to mash up bananas then listened carefully to the recipe so we knew what ingredients we needed and how much we should measure. We mixed everything together then rolled our cookies and cooked them in the oven. They smelled delicious. Yum!

We were so excited to see Halloween stories and props in nursery. We listened to Halloween stories, cast magic spells and discussed what we do for Halloween 🧙‍♀️ 🪄

The children chose our new story of the moment. They each had a vote. When they had all voted, they counted them and ‘The Gingerbread Man’ had the most. We discussed the story and some children helped Nadine find props for it. We also watched the story on the smart board at the end of the day❤️

Today we went for a walk to find some twigs and leaves to make a comfy and cosy nest for our owl babies. Afterwards we had fun using our gross motor skills at the park, sliding, swinging and climbing.

We explored skeletons of the human body and learned names of the bones and what they protected in our bodies H ‘our brain is in there’, we learned our ribs protect our heart. We compared them to dinosaur bones and noticed we have the same amount of toes as dinosaurs. M ‘5, Nadine it’s the same’

We had our apple pie for snack. Most of us tried it and said we didn’t like it, some of us tried it and enjoyed it J ‘this is so yummy Nadine’. I was so proud of you all for trying something different. We discussed our tastebuds on our tongue and how they help us to taste what we are eating 🍎 🥧 👅

Today we were excited to see apples that Emma brought in from her apple tree. We spoke about how they grew and helped Nadine to make apple pie with them. Developing our fine motor skills and hand to eye coordination. We can’t wait to try it tomorrow 🍏 🥧

We had fun making banana bread last week. We used good listening and followed Nadine’s instructions. We developed our fine motor, hand to eye coordination and measuring skills banana 🍞 🍌

We have been settling back into nursery and establishing routines. We are becoming familiar with the snack routines. We love to help make our snack, learning skills such as good hygiene, safety with knifes, being responsible and hand to eye coordination as well as good fine motor skills 🍎 🍌 🍽️

We had fun searching the garden for bugs today and putting them into the bug hotel 🐛 🐌 we learned the different names of some of them ❤️

We have had fun exploring the mud kitchen with new loose parts to make pretend food and resources to make tea and coffee! ☕️ 🫖

We had such an amazing time at our trip to Edinburgh Zoo! Lots of lovely memories made! 🐧🦁🦒❤️

We were so excited to get to hold our butterflies today before they flew away. We have learned lots about the stages of their development and will miss checking on them each day 🦋❤️

We have some butterflies! We have 4 who have emerged and are still waiting on a few more. We have liked seeing their wings and learned about the way they stretch their wings and flutter them to pump the colour into them 🦋❤️

Last week we had fun creating the life cycle of a butterfly. We learned that the caterpillar comes out of an egg first and we spoke about how excited we are to see them come out their cocoons 🦋

In the under 3s we made Ladybird pizza. We used our fine motor skills to cut, spread, sprinkled and place different ingredients on to our pizza base and enjoyed trying new foods. “Yum yum” PG “ I like cheese” JRE

Our interest in all things insects continues this week. We were so excited to see a tray for us to explore with edible sand and insects. Lots of submerging our hands and sprinkling the crunched up cornflakes and weetabix ❤️🕷️🪲

Our caterpillars are getting big and have grown lots over the weekend, it won’t be long until they start going into their cocoons which we are so excited about 🐛

We were so excited to finally have our caterpillars. We loved watching them wiggle and used the camera of the iPad to see them closer. We learned that we need to keep the lid on to keep them safe and that they have all their food at the bottom of the container. We can’t wait to watch them grow!
