Now on to smaller details on the face: lips and eyebrows. The lip is made of very short velvet from fabric scraps, with the sides folded along the middle to make it cleaner. I'm very disappointed for the eyelids, the magnets aren't strong enough to secure them in place. #Fursuit #FursuitMaking

Time to work on the smaller details! I made the upper hair tuft with two magnets for easy storage and swappable hairstyles. Then, two horn sheaths to hide the locking mechanism. The fur transition isn't the cleanest, but oh well. #Fursuit #FursuitMaking

Here's a full build from that point, and I gotta say I was really happy with how it looked already! And cat gave his blep of approval. I still had quite a bit to go though: Bottom and upper lips, eyeliner, eyelids, horn sockets, braid ends, back of the head and neck. #Fursuit #FursuitMaking

Finally, the long awaited step...shaving!! I cannot describe how nervous I was. And of course, it went wrong and I overshaved a spot. I tried needle felting some fur back in but it didn't work, so I cut it out and made an inlay which ended up surprisingly clean. #Fursuit #FursuitMaking

More work on the fluffy bits, finished the braids and main hair tuft. The braids do lose shape when they fluff up, so I'll have to find a way to let me undo, brush, then re-braid them despite the braid rings. The hair and braids are all magnetic. #Fursuit #FursuitMaking

Updates will be more detailed so I don't run out of content too soon. I started thinking more seriously about the horns, with the EVA foam socket to hide the twist lock. They started way too tall and dipping very low, so I made a second version (last pic). #Fursuit #FursuitMaking

It was then time to tackle the braids, I had an idea in mind but no clue how it would turn out. I cut 5cm strips of fur, sewn them into tubes, braided them together. I thought the fluffiness of the fur might hide the texture of the braid, but it ended up looking good! #Fursuit #Fursuitmaking

After a worrying amount of time in the mail, my eyes had arrived. My friend @matt-the-mutt.bsky.social and his magical sublimation printer made them for me with PVC mesh. Problem: my real eyes were visible (3rd pic) Solution: a second layer of mesh (4th pic) #Fursuit #FursuitMaking

You may have spotted some magnets around the eyes, these are of course for angy and eepy time. And then I finally glued most of the fur to the base. The sides and top are still loose, it'll be easier when I secure the horn bases, the ears will be secured in last #Fursuit #FursuitMaking

Still going one small step at a time. I made a horn to test a detachable mechanism (video in comments), as well as starting to work on the back and trying a different strap method with a 3d printed piece. It did feel more secure so it'll probably be the one I end up using. #Fursuit #FirsuitMaking

Little improvements including snoot horns, fit test with test horn and my supervisor checking the quality of my fur. The fit test was actually quite a big step, as I added blocks of foam with Lycra lining in the 3rd pic that made it so I don't need to hold the head up. #Fursuit #FursuitMaking

I slowly made my way around the face and ears, the pieces weren't perfect but it would do. I forgot to mention I started with machine sewing, but spent way too long fixing mistakes so I pretty quickly switched to hand sewing, which I've been doing for the whole face. #Fursuit #FursuitMaking

At that point I couldn't delay it anymore, it was time to start furring. Idk why it made me so nervous, but slowly it was taking shape. I should have pre-shaved the fur even more to make it easier on future me, but I dreaded trimming too short #Fursuit #FursuitMaking

It was time for ears and I wanted them big and flappy! I used expired cards to act as a spring, and two layers of EVA foam glued in the curved shape. I made the pattern such as the ears would be able to flap around, we'll see if it works once I see them in place. #Fursuit #FursuitMaking

Next steps were to glue the lining and finish up the maw with roof and base to raise the bottom of the jaw. Gluing the lining to the lips and eyes was a bit of a mistake as I'll discover while furring. Otherwise, I'm really checking happy with how the maw turned out! #Fursuit #FursuitMaking

It took around two week, but at last I got the fabrics! I went straight to making the lining, then realizing than I had forgotten the purple of the maw so I added that too. I also started adding the gums to the teeth, it took a while but it was 100% worth the result. #Fursuit #FursuitMaking

I forgot one critical step: swatches! I got these beforehand I even got the head base. The furs were still on their way, which means more limited progress on what I can. More and better chompers, test printed eyes, and upgraded printed eyes #Fursuit #FursuitMaking

Once the pattern was done, it let me figure out how much fur I needed to order. And while that was in the mail, I started experimenting with what I could! Padding, chompers, head straps, all of which I would change later on. #Fursuit #FursuitMaking

Afte the inner tape pattern, the outer one. The tape was pretty tricky to put around the neck and back on my own. Don't do like me, invest in a proper mannequin bust! #Fursuit #FursuitMaking

Next step: patterning! This pattern is for the lining, at this stage I didn't anticipate that the maw would need to be purple, so I went as if the maw was all lining #Fursuit #FursuitMaking

This is where it all began! A friend of mine chopped of the head of my 3D model, turned it into a head base then printed it in TPU. This allowed me to skip the foam sculpting step, which I don't think I would have been able to do well. #Fursuit #FursuitMaking
