Female-identifying students in grades 6-8 across #TVDSB attended Girls in Aviation Day on Tuesday! Students had the opportunity to visit interactive stations featuring industry partners, providing early exposure to careers & inspiring diverse pathways in STEM & aviation.

Clara Brenton's School Council partnered with Oakridge Secondary School's Oakbotics team to host their 2nd annual Robotics Night for Grades 4-8 on May 5! Students learned about the exciting possibilities available at Oakridge through hands-on STEM activities, demos & 3D printing.🤖

In April, four TVDSB schools welcomed Cam Milligan of @OntarioLacrosse to teach students lacrosse skills and drills! The visit was supported by @fnmitvdsb who provided learning resources about the historical significance of lacrosse, as well as @London_Lax. 🥍

Turtle Island Public School celebrated the school’s official opening ceremony on May 20. Featuring student performances and a video presentation, it was an exciting day for the whole school community!

Congratulations to Kayson and Mason, grade 9 students from Ingersoll District CI, who represented Southern Ontario in 5 pin Youth Bowl Canada Nationals held in Winnipeg May 4 to 6. They were crowned Gold Medal National Champions – amazing job!

On April 15, 7 schools from TVDSB came together at Lord Dorchester for a day of workshops, followed by a showcase of the pieces that they worked on together! This included 200 vocalists, 45 guitarists, 60 woodwinds, 40 brass & 10 percussionists, led by musical professionals from Western. 🎶

On May 1, Summers’ Corners PS hosted the “Sabres Den Robot Rumble,” a robotics competition featuring 15 teams from across Thames Valley! This event was made possible by the Thames Valley Education Foundation’s Learning Enhancement Fund. 🤖

On April 10, Dillon Consulting, on behalf of the @cityofstthomasontario, visited Parkside to enlist students’ help planning bus routes for the city. Students got to map out desired routes, considering many factors, and defend their ideas.

Elementary Wrestling is in full swing at W. Sherwood Fox PS! 🤼 Training hard since February, the team has already hosted two exciting meets, with more coming up before Valley Finals. Students have been developing their physical skills, perseverance & confidence - great job!

♻️🤖Grade 1s at Rick Hansen PS designed and built robots using recycled materials in Science class. Each robot had a purpose to help people or the environment—like cleaning oceans, picking up garbage, planting flowers, and more! 🌱

🌱 Eco Club Spotlight! 🌱 Mountsfield’s Eco Club has launched a new recycling initiative with Eco Boxes in every classroom. Each month, students track the waste and recycle it through Staples. ♻️ More student-led initiatives are coming, including an assembly & a school-wide clean up 🌍

On April 21, a group of intermediate students at Jeanne Sauvé French Immersion Public School participated in a virtual global conference on the environment. They shared presentations connected to this year’s Earth Day theme of “Our Power, Our Planet” with Turkey, Ukraine, Brazil & the United States.

Full day kindergarten students at Dunwich-Dutton PS made a bulletin board about their pledge to the planet for Earth Day! They used scrap materials to create individual pieces of art that demonstrates their commitment. Today the whole school is doing yard cleanup for Earth Day!

The Hospitality classes at Clarke Road Secondary School have been hard at work preparing food for the students at Knollwood Park PS! 🧑‍🍳 Clarke Road offers an impressive Hospitality program where students fulfill catering orders from community partners & schools across TVDSB.🍳

Staff at Tecumseh Public School hosted a World Autism Day event to support families of children with autism!🌎 Families learned about supports available at Tecumseh, connected with staff and community partners, and received swag bags decorated by their children filled with helpful resources.

Aldborough PS students enjoyed guest readers as part of the school's Forest of Reading Program!📖 Community members read Blue Spruce books to students who voted on their favourite book. Guest readers included the West Elgin Fire Dept, Kiwanis members and Elgin County Library staff.📚

Medway student Ryan Schwemler competed against students from 10 other boards to win gold in Individual Carpentry at the Ontario Skills Qualifier!🥇 He'll now advance to the Ontario Skills Competition in May. Congrats to Ryan, his teacher/coach Dan Machuk & all TVDSB competitors!
