Given Nioh 3 just came out, it's a good time to announce my Nioh 1 Luma mod Features: -HDR+bloom & grading improvements -Fix ultrawide (bloom & videos stretched, render resolution being halved) -Fix most materials not using anisotropic filtering (blurry) -Add FXAA (game had no AA)

A curiosity about HDR is that it's not really compatible with the classic "Invert Colors" effect you might have seen in image editors/games Black mapped to SDR ~100nits white, and white mapped to black In HDR this looks terrible: black would map to 10k nits, the only way is to pre-tonemap it

I really don't get why Google allows completely fake & misleading ads, often showing gameplay that doesn't exist or isn't of the same genre. Why can't mobile games be as simple & hooky as they used to, eg Fruit Ninja/Temple Run?

1/3 I think Battlefield 6 might be the first game in the history to have a user friendly Audio settings menu! It explains what each mode does exactly, whether it's currently supported and what it'd fall back to. As a non expert, I've always been confused by audio menus.

1/4 AI usage warning post AI is trained on human data. The problem? They make mistakes that persist for years. The BT.601 color space was dropped ~25 years ago, yet google insisted on its coefficients for any color questions, causing a snowball effect that kept spreading it.

1/3 I couldnt help but notice almost all IGN uploads trailers have shifted colors against the original version (xbx/ps/devs yt page) To add a logo, not only they butcher the quality of anything in movement , but also mess up all colors, failing to show the game as originally intended by its artists

The state of HDR in the game industry right now is catastrophic. Silent Hill F, AAA game, shipped w/out color grading in HDR, on top of the raised blacks that come with all UE HDR games It doesn't look as it's supposed to in HDR, atmospehre is completely gone, devs either didn't know or care for it

New HDR+Ultrawide mod: INSIDE an absolute gem Reverse engineering shaders was very interesting as they did everything in a unique way, bespoke for a side scrolling horizontal view. As usual, a large amount of data being lost due to the presentation being restricted to SDR.

I don't really like to offer customizations that stray much from the artistic intent, especially in case where it influences gameplay, but a lot of players were asking for customizations on the character light, so I've added an intensity, radius and falloff parameters. Ready for download!

This is how bad banding was without my HDR mod For some reason the hero light sprite is extremely low quality and quite distracting in dark areas (most of the game😁) Plus, the whole rendering was 8bit, so if you stack multiple post process effects, quantization hits pretty fast!

I've been working on PCSX2 (PS2 emu), adding HDR rendering and output Given how the HW worked, everything is a blend: both vertex lighting or additive draws (lights/particles) produce values beyond the SDR range (0-255) that were just clipped. I've made a mod that adds HDR to good old Bioshock! Here's a showcase of it: www.youtube.com/watch?v=garC... Older games still rendered to HDR internally, but then clipped to SDR before output, so a ton of detail was going lost. The game looks stunning in HDR, still feels fresh in 2024.
