Every time I try to play Abe's Oddysee, I try that first hidden encounter and remember just how ridiculous this game can be. The Mudoken AI just seems to do whatever it wants. If you actually saved all 99 of these guys, you have the patience of a saint.

I'm usually pretty good at recognizing voice actors and remembering what they sound like, but I have yet to recognize Xander Mobus in anything despite him showing up everywhere. He's in Pac Man as the evil ghost tree, and I legit thought it was Dan Castellaneta doing a Vincent Price impression.

Are hispeedido kits for GBA supposed to be total crap? They keep shipping LCDs with pressure spots on them (obvious dark splotches). The HDMI either has noise, the passthrough to the screen doesn't work, and one kit had a broken voltage regulator that causes the screen to get brighter over time.

You'd think I'd be more excited to hear that one of my favorite, most replayed games is getting a modernized remake. However, that post that got shared around a week ago where one of the creatives bragged about using AI Generated assets killed any interest I had before it was even announced.

Really baffling that Nintendo surprise dropped a patch for Pikmin 4 two years after release and it's somehow not a Switch 2 upgrade.

It occurred to me that we don't know who is doing the soundtrack for Metroid Prime 4. Kenji Yamamoto is so inextricable from the trilogy and is responsible for the series' best music, yet he hasn't composed for the series since Prime 3 in 2007. Same for Minako Hamano from Super/Fusion.

The mind boggles at how someone managed to take Barrier Core X and turn it into one of the hardest bosses of all time. I'm playing on Normal and it took me twenty tries!

At this point, I would pay someone to put a screen protector on for me. Trying to get it on dust-free takes an hour and multiple wipes.

Three hours to get everything except the three backtracking jiggies, and this is my fifth playthrough! No level in DK64 took me this long.

Apparently Woozle just stopped making GBA consolizer kits during COVID. It kind of sucks, because I absolutely would get a second one just for recording multiplayer. It's hard to know if any of the alternatives have proper scaling, 59.7275Hz refresh rate, and Pokefan's color correction.

I'm replaying Banjo Tooie, and for the first few levels I was thinking maybe I was too hard on it in the review. Then I played Jolly Roger's Lagoon and Terrydactyland and decided I was exactly hard enough. The Triceratops Jiggy alone is so much work that even the game says so!

I'm hammering at this DK64 script, but as always needing to source my footage slows down the preproduction. In this case, I needed a refresher on the Banjo games and the fresh footage was a bonus.

So, Click Clock Wood is just as miserable as I remembered.

I'm roughly 14 pages into writing a DK64 script and I still have yet to find a place to elaborate on why I enjoyed replaying it so much. The game is so bizarrely constructed that I kind of have to talk about all that to start with.

I'm still mystified that Rare decided to kill off Wrinkly Kong only to keep her around as a tutorial ghost. Why? I have yet to find an interview from any of the developers explaining their rationale. And then she just kept showing up in the 2000's as if nothing happened.

Kind of crazy to remember that within my lifetime Nintendo and Bandai released handheld color gaming consoles without backlights and everybody just let them. I remember playing Yoshi's Island with this LED light attached to my GBA 001.

To whoever decided the PS3 absolutely had to have hardware level HDCP that can't be disabled in software—thus necessitating an HDCP stripping device to record footage—I hope you stub your toe at an inopportune time.

Trying to find a high quality rip or GSF pack for the GBA version of DKC3 led me down a rabbit hole; I found an MSU1 pack for the SNES version that allows you to play it with the GBA soundtrack. It's kind of awesome but also kind of cursed; SNES sfx and GBA music is a weird combo.

I have these recurring dreams that involve what is essentially a rom hack of Mario 64, and I kind of wish it was real. Not to be confused with the weird variants of Sunshine I frequently dream about.

Late night walk thoughts: an open-zone game where Dr. Eggman is trapped in a pocket dimension and needs to salvage materials and build mechs to fight his way out. It would work like the Gummi Ship builder from Kingdom Hearts: you can collect blueprints to remake classic mechs, or design your own.

I was really excited when I saw Gears of War Reloaded on steam, until I realized it wasn't an MCC style collection of the first four games from the 360, but rather a "remaster" of the first game. They already did that a decade ago.

Never played these games before. Strangely curious to see what's what.
