Looking up at the veteran Ash and Oak at Glandwr Forest, marvelling at their majesty, the mind wanders to the evolution they have seen. They stand at a special cross-section of habitat, between the species-rich grassland and the newly planted trees in the carbon study. Sentinels watching over us.

🌸 What an incredible day yesterday on our Meadow Walks. First stop our species-rich grassland. Acidic and damp, it is rich with whorled caraway, heath-spotted orchids, bird's-foot trefoil, tormentil, bedstraw and more. #Bloomscrolling

It's #insectweek, and we are fluttering for joy after a fabulous day yesterday on our meadow walks. Butterflies counted following the Big Butterfly Count, notes taken for the Big Meadow Search, and lots of spots spotted.

Looking back on the red warning for extreme heat in 2022. That week, there were samples due to be collected for the Glandwr Forest Carbon Study. As the warnings escalated, daytime work was stopped, volunteering was cancelled, and those on site sought shelter in the barn.

Reflecting on a fantastic day in Glandwr Forest and the fabulousness of our volunteer community. 🌳 Saturday was a big! 1,500 stakes firmly secured, and broken ones replaced to ensure all the barcodes are in the right space. Corner posts had a spruce-up too, with 25 old ones swapped for new.

Our Carbon Study Spruce Up got off to a strong start in May, and our aim is to complete the spruce-up in June. Joining this citizen science event is a great way to understand the layout of this long-term research study.
