By the way, if I haven't mentioned it here, I've seen One Battle After Another three times, and I think it's a fabulous film. The performances and tone are exceptional. Each time the film flew by it doesn't feel like a near three hour film.

Temple of Doom is the best Indiana Jones picture. It's the best because it's Spielberg and Lucas at their wildest. It's darker, nastier, and more daring than the other films in the series.

NW: The best Indiana Jones. Spielberg has made two glorious messes in his career, one of them is 1941, the other is Temple of Doom.

I love this movie. It's SO funny. There's a lot wrong with it. A mess, plot-wise. There *really* should have been something explicit about Japanese-Americans being sent to camps. But so much of it is brilliant. Best cultural depiction we have of the cultural freakout, post-Pearl Harbor.

Way too busy to be laugh out loud funny, but still a glorious mess.

Saw two Mitchum Marlowe movies today. One is much better than the other. Farewell, My Lovely is a highly evocative and atmospheric adaptation of Chandler's work. The Big Sleep (1978) is somewhat dated, and the modern setting doesn't quite work for that particular adaptation.
