I think some affluent liberals, conservatives, independents are afraid of socialism because it threatens their status. Also, it is historically associated and hammered home in our schools authoritarian examples. There are plenty of authoritarian examples in capitalism as well, like right now.

There is no nice form of capitalism. It's a system that requires poverty. It's a system where profit will always take precedent over human needs.
