An old Cambridge pastel sketch of mine showing the view across the Cam with Jesus Green bridge and the lock-keeper's cottage. As with arms and legs in life drawings, bridges must not be severed at the edges of paintings. I see with this one that I arranged some willow leaves to stop this happening.

An old one from when I used frequently to visit my old home town of #Portsmouth. This is a view from a friend's window in coloured pencils on a sheet of textured watercolour paper. The sea can be glimpsed in the distance and the twin chimneys of the old power station since demolished.

Just one more maritime sketch for now: this is Wells-next-the-Sea again. Has the liveliness that comes from being dashed off on the spot. Watercolour and Indian ink with a dip pen. Shows the grain gantry from the other side that was in the previous Wells drawing. #Norfolk

Watercolour from one of my last visits to Asham near Saffron Walden. Painted there lots of times but the house and grounds have changed ownership (and I no longer drive). The bridge doesn't bend but that's artistic licence I suppose (it would mess it up to scrub it and straighten it).

I regularly exhibited in a small gallery in St Ives, Cambs (not the Cornwall St Ives) and I did this tiny oil on board for them. This view of the quay is from the 15th C bridge over the Great Ouse. After several successful years the gallery closed after making a string of sales for me.

An old watercolour drawing of mine from a sketching visit to London in 1993. This is the Inns of Court, completed on the spot. I was told off by the porter who is looking out of the window on the right (he graciously said I could finish what I was doing). It sold at an exhibition.
