Every year, our members help with Buffalo Niagara Waterkeeper's spring waterfront cleanup. On Saturday morning, we volunteered along Scajaquada Creek in Black Rock. The Guild has participated in the cleanup for many years and we do so in memory of the late Guild leader John “Jay” Bonfatti.

Last week, our newsroom and union sadly said goodbye to four veteran journalists. In total, they worked at The Buffalo News for 120 years and in journalism for more than 150 years. The Guild congratulates Margaret Kenny Giancola on being named editor-in-chief of The Buffalo News. We look forward to continuing to work with Margaret, a former Guild member, to build a sustainable local news operation in Buffalo. We also wish Sheila Rayam well in her next chapter.

We and United Media Guild represent workers at Lee Enterprises' largest news operations and are shareholders in the company. Today, on the day of Lee's annual shareholder meeting, we call on Lee to start investing in local news and in its digital operations. The company's future depends on it.
